Telling, Writing Your Own Stories, and Why It’s Important

In this workshop, Jean Winborn, a retired educator and longtime genealogical researcher, will guide participants through the process of genealogical writing, emphasizing the power of telling personal and ancestral stories. Jean will share examples from her own work and highlight stories of Black Americans and abolitionists. Participants will engage in writing exercises to explore their own stories and family histories. Jean’s core belief is that no one can tell our stories like we can, making it essential to reclaim the narratives that shape our lives.
