Shrine Poetics: The Monuments of Ypsilanti

June Jordan, in her poem Grand Army Plaza, asks, "Why would anybody build a monument to civil war?", referring to the Sailor's and Soldier's Arch in downtown Brooklyn, New York. In this workshop, we will play with Jordan's attention to urban geography, directing our attention to the monuments - public and personal and imagined - of Ypsilanti. We’ll be led in this exploration by published poet and EMU creative writing graduate Addy Malinowski.
