Albiar Alshikh is a seventeen-year-old writer, originally from Saudi Arabia, who currently lives in Ypsilanti. She attends the University of Michigan-Flint, and her goal is to become an orthodontist. What do you write?
Abiar usually writes journalism, poetry, and prose in both Arabic and English. She has translated her work and published it in chapbooks.
Why do you write?
Abiar uses her writing to make change and to advocate for important causes in her life. She also wants “to let others know me.”
Why does writing matter to you?
“Because we’re going to learn more about ourselves when we write.”
