Remembering The Dream

Poem by Monena Lamb

I have a dream like any dream believing MLK words,

that soared down my spine.

As his dialect uttered like milk and honey,

freedom reign as raindrops of many dreams.

I have a dream that we will be

compassionate towards our brothers and sisters

as well to ourselves.

A lingering cast shadow a road ahead, freedom from victimhood

To victory, being fearful and wonderful made.

Even when face with a great adversity, with my back forced

against the walls, yet roared with holding

my head high to the heavens.

Though I walk through the shadow of death.

I shall not fear evil, but stand my ground

in what I believe in.

With the bitter taste of the fruit, that left my tongue uneased

And my soul asunder.

Yet, becoming better at battling my own demons,

my face turn towards the sun, knowing my worth

for the future generations to come.

Let the obscurities fade in the distance,

Like a broken ecosphere and not settling for less.

I have a dream just like any dream MLK

placed in many of us.

Free at last! To love who we want to,

freedom to express ourselves without judgement.

Free at last! From a slave mentality,

freedom to many opportunities and chances.

MLK dreams touched many souls of the old

to the new generations alike.

His words of inspiration will always be

alive and rooted in our hearts.

I remember that dream like

a candlelight that you cannot place.

Today the dreams many fought to bring

peace and equity---unraveled; within these darkest times,

into chaotic nightmares.

Heeding the sweet cheers surrounded

for freedom to the shattered cries.

As we mend bonds of broken chains

scattered voguish pain, strengthen our unity.

I have a dream that this nation will once again rise

from the phoenix ashes, burning brighter

and greater than before.

Free at last, free at last!

I thank God from the heavens; I am free to the

land of milk and honey.
